Raleigh Named #2 in “America’s Best Cities for Young Professionals”
A study done by Forbes.com has placed Raleigh as the second best city in all of the United States for young professionals to make their residence. Coming in ahead of every U.S. city other than Des Moines, Iowa, Raleigh adds this accolade to a number of other they have received this year in the Forbes “Best U.S. Cities” rankings. Noting that there is an average median salary of $56,500 and a low unemployment rate of just 5.1 percent, it comes as no surprise that Raleigh placed as highly as it did on the list. Additionally, the city’s 3.7 percent average yearly job rate growth and having over 41 percent of its residents with a bachelor’s degree weighed into the lofty ranking. In explaining the system used in deciding which U.S. cities were named as the best to house young professionals, as well as the many accolades the site has given to the “Capital City” recently, Erin Carlyle of Forbes.com noted, “Raleigh has been the recipient of many FORBES honors this year, including, the No. 2 slot on our list of America’s Fastest-Growing Cities.” She continued explaining, “Its close proximity to the Research Triangle Park, where more than 170 companies, including IBM, GlaxoSmithKline, Syngenta, Credit Suisse, and Cisco, have outposts makes it a hotbed of job opportunities. The area is a natural greenhouse for the well-educated, thanks to the presence of North Carolina State University in Raleigh, Duke University in nearby Durham, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.” To read the full article and view the entire listing of “America’s Best Cities for Young Professionals,” visit www.forbes.com
