Safest Cities in NC Poll Puts Cary at Number Four

Safest Cities in NC Poll Puts Cary at Number Four

Remaining near the top of the list since the inception of the annual poll completed by the National Council for Home, Safety and Security, the Town of Cary was named number four among the 2018 Safest Cities in NC.

In naming the Safest Cities in NC, the National Council for Home, Safety and Security explained at their website, alarms.org, that “to identify the safest cities in North Carolina, we reviewed the most recent FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics along with our own population data and internal research. We eliminated any cities that failed to submit a complete crime report to the FBI and removed cities with populations under 10,000.” In continuing to detail the process that found Cary fourth among all statewide municipalities in the 2018 Safest Cities in NC rankings, the article states, “The remaining cities were ranked based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) and property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) per 1,000 people. These variables were then weighted, with violent crimes accounting for 1.5 of the total (due to their severity) than property crimes.” More specific to the Town of Cary is the graph shown on the same website (alarms.org) showing that despite a fairly large population in comparison to many of the other towns and cities analyzed (164,835), the number of violent crimes was significantly less than the statewide average and the property crimes in Cary were among the fewest of all towns studied.
